Ring Bells for Peace at Noon



The Harriet Beecher Stowe Center will hold an open house on January 16, 2017 in honor of Martin Luther King Day. The event features tours of the Katharine Seymour Day House, hands-on family activities, a film screening and discussion, and bell ringing for nonviolence and peace. All activities are free.

In the spirit of giving,
visitors can bring new bath towels and feminine hygiene products for donation to emergency shelters -- a project of the Muslim Coalition of Connecticut.
 
The day's schedule:


9:30 AM - 5 PM

Tour the Katharine Seymour Day House , a gilded age mansion and one of Hartford's architectural gems.

Enjoy hands-on activities for all ages in the Stowe Visitor Center: Learn about King's work through writing and craft activities, discuss historic documents from Stowe's time in the "Conversation of a Nation", and contribute ideas for "Words that Changed the World."

Visit the Stowe Center Museum Store for a wide array of books on social justice and history for all ages as well as home décor, gifts, toys, and jewelry.
 
Noon
Ring bells for nonviolence and peace.  
 
1 PM - 2:45 PM
Watch a screening of 13th , director Ava Duvernay's in-depth look at the U.S. prison system and how it reveals the nation's history of racial inequality.

2:45 - 4 PM
Discuss the film with Stowe Center staff and visitors.
