Get a behind-the-scenes look at the $3.3 million preservation project in the Stowe House, a National Historic Landmark
The Harriet Beecher Stowe Center presents Stowe House Preservation Tours, guided talks and tours of the $3.3 million preservation project in the 1871 Stowe House, a National Historic Landmark.
Offered for a limited time through spring 2017.
Preservation Tours will be offered at 3 PM on the following Saturdays in 2016:
*What kind of work is taking place in the Stowe House?
*How does an organization plan for a $3.3 million preservation project in a National Historic Landmark?
*How did the Stowe Center pack and move historic collections including furniture, paintings and decorative arts items?
*What does research show about the Stowe House interior during the author’s residence from 1873-1896?
Admission: $12 per person. Group tours also offered by advance reservation.
Stowe House preservation, taking place through spring 2017, includes a new climate management system, state-of-the-art fire detection and suppression, restoration of historic windows, and new carpeting and wallpapers. In addition, select paintings and furnishings owned by Stowe are undergoing conservation treatment.
