As the Stowe Center prepares to award the 2018 Stowe Prize to Matthew Desmond, author of Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City,
Stowe Salons at Lunch focuses on housing and homelessness.

 

Despite nationwide efforts to end homelessness, it remains a significant social issue. Nowhere is it more apparent than in urban areas.

 

High rates of homelessness are driven by many factors including eviction, job loss, domestic abuse, and mental illness. But many U.S. towns and cities address the issue by effectively making homelessness a crime.

 

Why have so many locales elected this option? What are the consequences?
