Bring your lunch and further explore the questions and themes of Telling Our Nation’s Story #2. Onsite and face to face, engage in honest conversation about historical and contemporary institutional racism in the United States, drawing on the insights of the previous evening’s special guests, Jonathan Daniel Wells, author of The Kidnapping Club (2021), Daryl McGraw, co-chair of Connecticut’s Police Transparency and Accountability task force, founder of Formerly Inc., and Senior Manager of Racial Justice and Equity at C4 Innovations, and Martha McCoy, the Executive Director of Everyday Democracy.
A part of the Telling Our Nation’s Story initiative, this program aims to engage communities in the Greater Hartford area in direct, open-ended, and inclusive conversations about the complex and always evolving American story, and to face the narratives that divide us in pursuit of the values that unite us. This Lunchtime Salon is an extension of the previous evening’s salon, but while participation in both is encouraged, it is not required.
The Harriet Beecher Stowe Center continues this second of four salons in collaboration with Our Common Purpose: Reinventing American Democracy for the 21st Century and the Commission On The Practice Of Democratic Citizenship, A Project Of The American Academy of Arts & Sciences.
Thank you to the George A. & Grace L. Long Foundation, Bank of America, N.A., Co-Trustee for helping the program possible.
