Three high school students and teacher Anthony Roy of Connecticut River Academy led a conversation on student activism and their work as student activists. Each of the students lead initiatives in their school — an empowerment group for teenage girls, advocating for students with special needs, and an activist for race and religious diversity. Mr. Roy spoke about letting students lead on causes they care about. Students have valuable and powerful perspectives. The students described ways they are overlooked or underestimated by teachers and other adults in their school. Activism, they said, allows them to prove their leadership skills and show adults they can take charge of important issues.
